We have recently designed a testing system for hearing aid loop systems, which permits a view of the complete audio spectrum allowing the performance of the loop amp to be seen and measured as well as allowing any interference to be quantified. The equipment also permits the sound quality to be heard to determine if there is any significant distortion present

Beside this we also perform basic field strength tests using a reference meter with a series of test tones and voice signals

As a result of this' guidance to whether a system meets the  IEC 60118-4 Standard for loop system performance

At one of our recent client's venues, the equipment showed up some interesting facts:-

the background noise level was as high as the required 0dB audio field strength , looking at the field using the height resolution spectrum analyser , it was clear where this problem came from .It was at a single frequency , 50Hz resulting from mains wiring as the specification in the standard only covers signals down to 100 Hz  this component of the background noise did not actually affect the loop's perform satisfactorily and meet the standard
